Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant which was initially described in Japan in 1988, has gained significant popularity among hair restoration experts. In the FUE method, we harvest the hair follicle units which consist of 1-4 hair from the donor area. The donor area is usually located on the back of the scalp.
Prior to the extraction, hair on the donor area will be shaved and local anaesthesia is administered to the donor area. The harvesting usually takes 3-4 hours and the patient needs to be in a prone position during the procedure. In the next stage, the recipient area is prepared with local anaesthesia and antiseptic material and small incisions are made in order to accommodate the grafts. This phase also takes 3-4 hours to complete.
